Hi list,
It is obvious that a raw nerve has been touched. Just look at the
number of posts about the restrictions/bans.
While it is true that only a dozen or so list members are making
posts, it has certainly not stopped other listers from posting on
non-political topics.
And if you don't want to read anymore political threads, if you
highlight the posts, then hit "delete" and then "enter", why, "poof!"
they is gone.
You know, I read an interesting item a while back on the Revolutionary
War (and I am NOT trying to incite a rebellion!!!!) But during the
war, less than 30 percent of the 'colonists" took any part what so
ever, in the conflict. They didn't attend rallies, join the militia,
sell food to the Army, didn't join Washington at Valley Forge...nor
did they act against it for the sake of the Crown. So that left 70%
who just didn't deal with the issue. The war wasn't in their
town...sink their ships...kill their livestock...or get in the way of
their life.
My point?
In the MVPA or this list, there are probably only 30% who will do
anything about this issue, to a greater or lesser extent.
There isn't a one of you out there that could be held to blame for the
new restrictions, even the chap in California and his Scud. Left to
our own devices, we would be happy to scrape grease off an old motor
in our garage and debate the right shade of OD paint for a shovel
handle. To quote a phrase from my reenacting interests, "This is a
hobby and hobbies are fun!"
Sadly, people outside our hobby are doing things that adversly effect
it. We have to add a response to their activities to our list of
things to do as part of owning a Green Thing. In this case, "politics"
has a more important demension than just electing a fellow collector
to a post in the MVPA or local chapter.
The 30 or so percent of the MV hobbiests that actually start writing
letters, contacting Veterans or other organizations are doing it
because, for one reason or another, it is more important to them than
the right shade of OD paint.
If you feel the 70 percent of Americans who didn't become involved
benefited from the actions of the 30%, then let there be peace amongst
us as our 30% act for the good of the hobby.
