As a complete foreigner (Scottish - and why not ), I'm only really aware
of US regulations from the export point of view, rather than import. I do
know that the US has some pretty nasty regulations against anything that
limits or restricts trade, I believe our respective governments are
squabbling about bananas at the minute (I kid you not)

So, if you are a US citizen, and you want a GMC 6 x 6, and you have two
vehicles on offer;

1. One is at a dealers next door, it's a complete pile of rust, will
barely move, and he want 10k US for it.

2. One is at Edgars near Brussels in Belgium, ex- Norway, and only needs
tyres, canvas and paint to be in mint condition. 4k US

So if the paperwork shufflers are preventing you from importing no 2,
isn't that anti-competitive , being unduly favourable to a company or
individual in the US ? I'm bringing this up 'cause I'm surprised no-one
has tackled this angle before, and with the American 'can-do' attitude to
getting things done I'm surprised the bureau's concerned haven't had a
legal challenge by now, particularly over something mild and inoffensive
like an MB jeep, for example. I take it the same regs prevent you from
importing vehicles to Canada or Mexico and then just driving them across
the border ? (and yes - I know you can be hundreds (thousands) of miles
from one of these borders in the middle states, but if I really wanted
something.....)
