You may have decide to go for 12 volts, which I suppose is sensible enough
given the fact jeeps are reluctant starters at the best of times, but two
things to bear in mind as you progress through jeep ownership, this advice
has served me well.
1. Whenever you take off an original bit, or a bit you even think might be
original, put it in a box somewhere safe, you never know what you might
want to do in another 20 years or so.
2. If you are fitting something non-original, like an alternator, make the
alternator fit the original jeep, rather than the jeep fit the alternator.
That way when you want to re-fit the stuff from (1) above it will go
right on.
As far as parts goes the US is full of folks who will provide you with a
new canvas top, seatcovers, tyres, and the rest, you may want to join the
MVPA and get copies of Army Motors and Supply Line, which will show you
the range of stuff available and the prices. You can pick up some good
info from forums and lists too, so don't hesitate to ask.
