Actually, tow-baring can be dangerous for another reason: I was planning on
tow-baring my M151 behind my CCKW for a 50 mile trip. The weekend before,
while I was backing up, there was a loud bang and out came the rear drive
(not axle) shaft. The U-joint failed. Had this happened whilst I was
tow-baring it, the shaft would have fallen out, been lost AND I would have
lost all the lube in the tranny-xfer which was still being turned by the
front drive shaft. This would have resulted in a seized/ruined tranny/xfer.
