[MV] Prototype Gama Goat

Talked to a fella today that told me that the gama goat started out as a
gasoline V8 engine. But the government decided to go with the 3 cyl diesel.
Has anyone ever seen one with the V-8, and if so, what V-8 would have been
in it?
