[MV] Weapons and Vehicles

I just looked at a Dutch collector's site which listed his collectibles. He
briefly described his collection holdings, and explained the laws regarding
ownership of weapons. Very restrictive. Very bad. I wouldn't want to live
there. It made me think of some things.

While you may have your views about what the US is all about, and present
government mechanisms may contravene my beliefs, I strongly believe that our
country was founded on a premise that the individual should be trusted to
engage in his pursuits, and remain relatively unfettered in his aspirations.
I believe that this country was created in response to the movements of the
Renaissance and Enlightenment, and the premise that an educated man was
certainly able to make good judgements. I think it is poor judgement to
remove the privilege of_______ (fill in the blank) from the group as a
result of a series of individual's actions. It is more of a threat to
over-regulate a population than to under-regulate it. Cars need to be safe,
but drivers need to be more careful. Rules are made for people, not
inanimate objects- they don't listen. We are at a crossroads, where the
population of the US could be restricted from _________(fill in the blank).
We have to ask ourselves if the loss of this privilege will weaken us as a
people. Because supposedly, we still are where our government derives its
power. But you might question that also. Remember that it's not just about
guns and jeeps- that's why I left the blanks.

Good debate. Maybe off topic, but then again, rules were made to be
broken....
