[MV] Periscope from attic

Howdy list,
Since my family & in-laws all know that all that is green goes to me, I
got a periscope from my in-law's attic. It is marked:

PERISCOPE M3
MPLS.HON.REG.CO.
NO. 16848 D.A.
1942

It seems to be in good shape except it's dirty & the black plastic lower
section is cracked in two places. Does anyone know anything else about
this thing. I've kind of figured it's for a M3 Tank?
