Dont mess with the galvanized. It cannot be easily painted. You can tell
by the lack of rust and the grey coloration to the metal that it is
galvanized. Welding it is a nightmare, and phosgenes are produced while
welding which can be deadly. Go with mild steel which will weld easily
using the .023 solid wire with gas or the larger tubular wire without gas.
You can buy it at any steel supplier for about 16-20 cents per pound with
minimal rust and do a great job. Good luck. RR
