Hi List and all:
I have recevied several pallets of MRES with MSDS sheets. The MSDS
sheets are for "Ration Supplement, Flameless Heater (FRH), for Meal,
Ready-To-Eat (MRE) NSN 8970-01-321-9153. Under Section II - Hazardous
Ingredients it states: Ingredients(all are non-toxic) and lists
Magnesium (Mg)- Iron alloy - Sodium Chloride, Silica, and a wetting agent
all in a Polyethylene matrix (pad).
MSDS is required due to fire fighting of bulk packages (288 FRH/case)
which start out as class A (fiberboard and plastic) fire and transistion to
a class D (flammable solid) fire.
While lots has been written about how bad they are, they are still far
better than previous field rations and continue to improve. The folks in
Natick deserve kudos for their efforts.
They are easy to handle in the MV and the new helectric heater being
fielded for use in your 28VDC MV is a kick. Its available from Star Electric
and other vendors in Supply Line and Military Vehicles magazine.
Come on guys, lighten up. Would you rather pack peanut butter and jelly
in a zip lock or Barbecue Beef and Rice. (Note- They have done away with
the " Turkey and/or Chicken loaf meal -- like it had wings at one time and
naked fowl all looks alike, so close enough for Govt. specs.!! Reports of a
Ham and/or Chicken Loaf are even scarier! )
Now I gotta go get my stomach pumped and a couple a bottles of Fleet.
Uncle Sugar was nice and let us eat most of our meals in an Air Force mess
last week. Which got closed down for a health inspection in mid week due to
a mysterious malady that took down a bunch of troops and was either water or
food borne. ( Hmmm-- Agent Orange Jello? Or Ranch Hand salad dressing?)
Thank God for those cute little squares of tobasco soaked toilet paper in
the condiment packs. Wakes ya right up , first thing in the morning. Pure
Genius!!
Regards, Ron
