Not an expert, but it sounds like the band is worn past it's limit.

I've seen this on Dingo tansmissions where the owner was stupid enough to
try and tow start it too - not a good option with the Wilson
pre-selector. I do prefer the Dingo driving position to the Ferret one.

Had the 'clutch' pedal come back up on you and throw you out the seat yet ?
