Funny you should ask. This topic came up months ago when I was also having
the same problem for my M422-A1. I talked to several of the leads that came
up and decided to go with US title in New Hampshire, although there seem to
be a number of company names that are involved as well as the individual
that you make the check out to. Strange situation.... and I really don't
want to know.
Anyway, I called for the info pack and filled it in, they give you the cost
when you call them. I sent it in with a check for around $150 and about 2
months later I got the paper work back. Due to the laws in NH, vehicles
over 10 years old are not issued titles (what a concept, to bad all states
don't do this!), but they do issue some form of a official receipt.
Officially you sell the vehicle to this guy, he registers it in NH and then
sells it back to you. The claim is that it is totally legal, and I guess it
is, although it just hits me as being a little deceptive.
I sent this NH receipt plus his bill of sale into WI and about 6 weeks later
I got title and plates.
Since you are starting a new fresh record for the vehicle I would do it
right. A jeep is not a model or type, it's name. So on the DMV form I put
AM General for the manufactuer, truck for type, and oddly enough, they no
longer have a box for model, just the serial (VIN) number. This minimizes
any red flags being raized when it goes thru the DMV. As a former DMV
employee told me once, never offer information and say as little as possible.
It worked for me.
