You are right about the snatch block, also make sure that every component of your winching rig is rated for the potential maximum load. I had a 4000# tree saver fail when using a snatch block with my 9000# winch. Theorectically the load could have been as high as 18000#. The snatch block and cable passed by my head at warp speed. This could have been fatal. Always put a coat or blanket on the cable!!!
