CC,

We have a couple of M911/M747 combinations at our museum and they do come in
handy for moving our MBT's (M60's, M48's, M47, etc.), but they are
definitely over width and they do require permits when we take them out on
the road. Permits are not that difficult to get, just another step that has
to be taken. The last National Guard Battalion that I was assigned to had a
Transportation Company that had a couple dozen of these rigs. They never
took them off post because they also would have had to get permits. Luckily
for them, they had 53,000 acres to drive around on for practice.

I have seen several M911 C-HET's on the DRMO sites. In fact, the museum that
I work with has one of them. It didn't quite live up to its description on
the site, or the description given by the individual that we talked to at
the DRMO. But that's another story.

John

OK, the imfamous M911 C-HET and M747 Trailer

Tractor - 110" wide - can be reduced to 102" by removing the outside duals.
Trailer - 137" wide - can't be reduced.

Most states the statutory width is 102" and some states are 96" with 102"
wide vehicles are restricted to certain roads (i.e. New Jersey).

Iowa will write over-width permits on an annual basis. I don't know about
elsewhere. Any clues out there?

It's such cool looking truck! I'm waiting for one to come-up.
