In the state of Massachusetts, the law states that the front plate be
permanently attached to the front bumper, and cannot be obscured. That
leaves you at the whim of the Inspection Station Inspector and/or you local
Selective Enforcement Officer. My inspection station said nuts and bolts
attachment only, no tie wraps.
It ain't pretty, but what can you do.
The rear plate must be illuminated and clearly visible at all times. I
tapped into the left rear tail light using a Y connector and military
connectors for the license plate light in back. I mounted the bracket right
next to the and inside of the left rear tail light. When I was stopped by a
local PD SEO because the license plate in back wasn't quite level and he
thought I attached a plate illeagaly, the officer found everything was
solidly bolted on. He then said the light didn't illuminate the plate
sufficently. Since it was 1330 in the afternoon, I asked him how he
determined that. He got all huffy about me not talking back (????). I then
asked for him to call the shift Sergent to the scene. He sent me on my way,
telling me he was giving me a break.
You can't win with some of these folks....
