I have not really been following this thread but I forwarded that writeup
from the battery company to some people and one of them sent this back to
me. Thought it might add something to the discussion.

One "Shade Tree Mechanic" trick to break through the sulphation and get
SOMETHING going in a non-conductive dead battery is to make a "charger" out
of rectified 110AC with a 100 watt lightbulb in series with it. The peak
voltages of the AC make it through to the battery (rectified first) and
break through the crap and get current flowing if it's still possible. Once
the lightbulb comes on (current flowing), then you can charge it with a
regular charger (after removing the line voltage setup. Don't touch any of
it whilst the thing is plugged in.
