I have had a little luck by using valve grinding compound in situations
like this. By using the inside nut and the compound (coarse) and lapping
back and forth up against the cross threaded part. It is a long and slow
process...but it is the only way I know of to save the housing other
than stripping it (and destroying some parts) so it can be put in a 25
to 30 inch swing lathe and rechasing the threads. I have (a few times)
stubbed a whole new spindle end on by weldong on a new oversized piece
of mechanical tubing and remachining all dimensions back to
specs...but..lathe time is about a whole day. Better use the
compound...let us know how you come out. In Uncle Sam's Canoe Club...we
called this a Mediterannean milling machine. Fred Martin
