Probably missed something here but my first thought ... what about the
starter? I also admit to be electronically challenged. I know that hooking
pos to neg is a bad thing and that's about it for me. <grin>

If you change from Pos. ground (earth) to Neg. ground (earth), won't that
also require a replacement starter or re-wiring it?
