Hi Dan and all the guys here,

The original design was to meet a Royal Corps of transport and REME
requirement for a battle zone crane especially assisting unloading
operations at beach heads and also field engineering tasks. The spec
included working in 2m (6' 6") of water and up to 1m (3' 3") additional wave
and spray, stopping and starting on 100% gradient, max SWL 10 tons (straight
off the rubber, no out riggers), max SWL 8 tons travelling, drawbar tractive
effort front or rear is in excess of 20 tons. Although 8.6 m (28' 6") long
it has a turning circle of only 48 feet, width is 3.2 m (10' 6").

Drivetrain from Rolls Royce C8NFL 16.3 litre diesel through 2:1 lockable
torque converter to Gearbox which is Clark 4 speed powershift giving just
over 40 mph forwards or reverse, front axle is Clark rigid fixed drive/steer
with planetry hub drive and 24" outboard disc brakes.

My use was initially hauling timber across a lake to reach a road head and
later for further forestry work. Driving these vehicles across country is an
unreal experience.

Anyone wanting further info ask, though I probably don't have all the
answers.

Best regards from David Gudmunsen

PS to Dan - I tried sending links to mil-veh but post has not shown, perhaps
you could post the links on my behalf.
