Hi Ryan:
I have had several L/Rs over the years, both civi and ex-MOD. I had a 1972
Ser IIA AirPortable. I drove it from Worcester to Boston Mass (80 miles RT)
every day for years.
They, at least mine, was simple in terms of mechanics. The bodies are an
aluminum composite, so they do not rust, but will corrode at points of
contact with steel. Much of the steel is galvanized too.
My 2 big complaints are the electric's. Lucas, 'The Prince of Darkness' was
in mine and it was largely undependable.
The other is the steel the frame and springs are made of is poor quality
compared to good ol US steel. The frames are box frames so moisture gets in
there and they rust from the inside, this is compounded on the military ones
as most (all the ones I have seen) are undercoated.
Good Luck!
Hal
