That thought had occurred to me but, since I was never in the Air Force,
I wasn't sure whether I was right, or not. Actually, I wouldn't be
surprised if some of these trucks might have been painted red while
stationed on Army bases, if they were base property, as opposed to
tactical vehicles. I have a vague recollection of seeing something like
that, maybe at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, but I can't be sure.

The one exception I can think of is the Air Force had some duece fire
trucks ( 530A and 530 B series ) that were always painted red. They
were primarily used for brush fires, etc. but also supported the
airfield crash trucks as resupply tankers.
