[MV] 12/24 volts

The issue of 24 volts probably started in WW2 as all the US vehicles that had
radios were 12 or 24 volts as opposed to the 6 volts at the time.

There are electrical effeciencies to be had by using 24 volts by either having
to motor generate the voltage higher or with transistors and diodes.

I personally have never figured out why car makers do not use 24 or 36 volts
due to the copper savings and increased number of wires in the same dia cable,
but I digress.

The issue of spares (having to carry them with you) is supposedly one of the
reasons for the open cabs of later WW2 as opposed to the closed cabs made by
each manufacturer with different doors, windshields etc.
