> Bill (and interested others), > >> Most USMC vehicles seved in the Pacific Theater, and I suppose that they wouldn't need to put insignia on their trucks to tell who belonged to what (or vice versa). If a Marine didn't recognize a truck, he shot at it, because it HAD to be Japanese... > > Very true, unfortunately sometimes that meant Australian trucks and aeroplanes!.One incident I have been told of was a P38 pilot who chased a Boomerang (Australian designed fighter) all the way back to the airfield as he didn't recognise it, our markings were apparently similar to Japanese ones (?, sort of, they did have red in them), also had quite a few planes shot up by airfield defence.............a bit more up to date, I was OS with the UN and all the guys from down here stuck red Kangaroos on our vehicles, for some reason particular countries were getting singled out for attention, at least we didn't get mistaken.......markings are important, any idea how many USMC guys were lost to friendly fire down here duringWW2?, was there an official reason for the lack of markings on USMC stuff (ww2)?
